The Spark Behind Tapios

The idea for Tapios didn’t come from a boardroom or a business plan.
It came from a quiet, heartwarming moment on a beach in Brazil.

I was watching my 2-year-old nephew enjoying a bag of biscoito de polvilho, a popular Brazilian snack made from cassava. As he munched on the puffs, something beautiful happened — other kids began to gather around him. Some were strangers, others just nearby. And without hesitation, he started sharing. They laughed. They connected. For a moment, nothing else mattered. There was only joy, curiosity, and a simple snack bringing people together.

That moment stuck with me.

It reminded me of the power of food — not just to nourish, but to create community, to spark smiles, and to transcend language and background. I knew I wanted to bring that spirit intosomething more lasting. Something I could share not just with my family, but with the world.

When I returned to the U.S., I began experimenting. I wanted to create a version of that beloved Brazilian puff that was more aligned with how we eat today: cleaner, lighter, better. But I didn’t want to stop at nutrition — I also wanted to build something that was good for the planet. Thatmeant choosing sustainable, plant-based ingredients. It meant compostable packaging. It meant thinking not just about flavor and crunch, but about the full impact of what we’re putting out intothe world.

I created Tapios because I believe that snacks can do more.

They can tell stories. They can reflect culture. They can inspire change.

Tapios is my way of honoring ancient foods while building something modern and meaningful —a snack that connects people, supports wellness, and protects the natural world that inspires it.
